According to the American Heart Association’s (AHA’s) 2014 Update Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics published in Circulation, more than 1,000 people suffer non-traumatic cardiac arrest outside hospitals; this including about 26 children, EACH DAY in the United States! Overall survival rates are approximately 10%.
We know that early and effective CPR and AED use increases the chance of survival.
The AHA set some important 2020 health impact goals.
By 2020, the AHA’s goal is to train 20 million people in the lifesaving skills of CPR and double the out-of-hospital bystander CPR rate, from 31% to 62%. We can achieve these goals – with your help!
We are looking for community members like you to help St. Joseph Hospital and The American Heart Association Save Lives!
This course is a free offering from St. Joseph Hospital to general community members to celebrate February Heart Month.
Upon completion of this course you will:
1. Be able to assess and determine when CPR is needed
2. How to give CPR
3. How to use an AED
4. How to relieve choking
This course teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills.
Upon completion of this course, students will receive a Heartsaver CPR/AED Certification Card.
Our goal is to provide education and training to our community to respond to emergencies. We thank you for your interest in saving lives!
