Did you catch Downtown with Rich Kimball yesterday … if not you missed a great clip about Leap Year. Click the link below to hear the spot.
You know … It is traditional for women to propose on a leap year – think about it – if you got married on February 29th … there is way fewer times for you to forget to bring home flower and chocolates on your anniversary – am I right!
A leap year occurs every four years when an extra day is added to the calendar to compensate for the fact that a solar year is almost six hours longer than 365 days.
All the other months in the Julian calendar have 30 or 31 days, but February lost out to the ego of Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus.
Under his predecessor Julius Caesar, February had 30 days and the month named after him – July – had 31. August had only 29 days.
When Caesar Augustus became Emperor he added two days to ‘his’ month to make August the same as July.
So February lost out to August in the battle of the extra days.
Either way – here we are with a lucky day – I hope you used it wisely!
