Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week, September 18-24

heroinMaine had recently been recognized for addressing the drug epidemic in our state – but there is so much more to do.

There was a 340% increase in the number of illicit drug-related overdose deaths from 2011 to 2014. Drug overdose deaths in Maine went up by 31% in 2015, climbing to a new high of 272 fatalities.

This drug epidemic is happening across the country and President Obama declared September 18-24, 2016 as Prescription Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week.
