It’s not too late to get out and enjoy the lights of Christmas this holiday weekend, even if it’s just an evening drive around your neighborhood with the kids, followed by a nice hot apple cider refresher when you return home.
For the more adventurous light-peepers in our midst, we offer the following recommendations:
Gardens Aglow, reputedly the biggest Christmas light show in Maine, explodes with color on the grounds of the Central Maine Botanical Garden in Boothbay. Tickets are purchased on their website, but act now…there are just a few available times left, on December 22 and 25. This wonderful light exhibit is just a part of the Boothbay Festival of Lights annual celebration.
A little easier to get to: just a short hop down the I-95 & 295 highway is LL Bean’s Northern Lights Celebration. The famous boot seller’s main retail campus in downtown Freeport lights up like a Christmas tree (well, actually, dozens of Christmas trees!). There’s also a new “Aurora” display, and opportunities to visit Santa and his (real) reindeer, or explore the village in a horse-drawn wagon. Check out the website for the full details of this great celebration, which runs through the end of December.
