Just ’cause it’s gonna be COLD this weekend is no reason to stay home and hunker down. There’s plenty to do in the great state of Maine and a lot of it is indoors. Here’s a small sampling of both indoor and outdoor fun in our region coming up this weekend.
Follow the Maine Black Bears in two venues this weekend. The UMaine men’s basketball team hosts Stony Brook this Saturday, tip-off at 2 pm at the Cross Center in Bangor. Meanwhile, there are two opportunities to enjoy women’s hockey at the Alfond Arena in Orono this weekend: tonight (Fri., 1/13) at 7 pm and Saturday, 1/14 at 2 pm.
Music lovers will enjoy the unique style of contemporary guitar legend Pat Metheny, accompanied by drummer Antonio Sanchez and bassist Linda Oh. It’s Sunday, Jan. 15, 7 pm at the Collins Center for the Arts. Still some good seats left, especially in the balcony. Here’s a sneak peek:
Still wanting for a fun OUTDOOR event? This one’s a bit farther afield, but you road runners will enjoy Jimmy the Greek’s Frozen 4-miler, down in Old Orchard Beach (who says they roll up the sidewalks down there after Labor Day?). It’s this Sunday, Jan. 15. Proceeds will benefit a local “Send a Kid to Camp” charity. It begins at Jimmy The Greek’s restaurant at 215 Saco Avenue. Start time is no sooner than 11:35 a.m., but, it could start a few minutes late (not quite shoah…it all depends on what toime that there wicked fancy Amtrahk Down-Eastah comes barrelin’ thru town, deah!).
Finally, you and your family can observe an important aspect of our American history and heritage this holiday weekend at various Martin Luther King Jr Day observances around the state. Here’s a description of some of these events, courtesy of BDN Maine.
Hope you enjoy yourselves at one of these or other events this weekend. Just don’t forget, it’s still wintah, deah, so consider calling ahead to check for cancellations or postponements, especially if you’re driving a long distance!
