The Weekend Sampler of Stuff to Do!

Another sign of spring: runners and walkers are out there gearing up for another season of racing – and sometimes – community fund raising. Here’s a great event for charity coming up this weekend. The Sea of Blue Autism Awareness Walk and 5K run is Saturday in Northeast Harbor. Walk starts at 9:30, Run at 10.  Click the link for all the details, register online if you like, and head down to the Island for some fun for a good cause.

Wanna shop til you drop (cheap)? One of the first big Yard Sales of the season is this Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm at the parking lot of the Fireside Inn on Main Street in Bangor. Browse a whole bunch of items large and small! Rain or shine, The Bangor Kiwanis Yard sale benefits Kiwanis kids’ charities.

And, after your car’s all loaded up with great stuff, you and the kids can mosey across the street and enjoy the ponderous pachyderms, clamoring clowns and other fabulous fantastical fare for young and old at the Shrine Circus, now playing at the Cross Insurance Center. Shows are Friday at 3 & 7, Saturday at 10, 2 and 7, and Sunday at 11 and 3. Info & Tickets.

Fans of Charlie Brown will be pleased to know that world’s most famous blockhead is celebrating his 50th theatrical birthday (You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown opened Off-Broadway March 7, 1967). This is being observed this weekend in Bangor with a revival of the show at the Gracie Black Box Theatre at Husson University. The New England School of Communications’ Entertainment Production degree program will present this production as their annual Spring Musical offering this Friday and Saturday (7 pm) and Sunday (2 pm). Get there early, tickets are sold first come first served at the door for $5 (also cheap). Only 60 seats in the Black Box, so get there early so you don’t miss out (good grief!).

Finally, you Schroeder fans in the crowd may prefer something a bit more, eh, “classic“. The Collins Center for the Arts has just the ticket! This Saturday at 1 pm, it’s La Traviata, from the Metropolitan Opera on the big screen. You always get the “best seats in the house” during these HD broadcasts, as you’ll see by the video.  Transparency alert: this one’s pre-recorded, not live, but visually just as thrilling! Info and Tickets.
