Today, May 31, is National Senior Fitness Day. Always the last Wednesday in May, this observance is designed to encourage older adults to stay fit through exercise. Special fitness events are scheduled at senior centers around the nation to introduce older adults to exercise programs to help them keep healthy and fit.
There are many exercise programs in our area that are suitable for seniors or designed with older adults in mind. For example, the Bangor YMCA offers a Land Wellness Programs, with sessions in Yoga, Tai Chi for Health and a 50+ ‘n Fit program. They also offer a Second Wind Program which provides an opportunity for older adults to participate in physical and social activities in a fun, safe, friendly environment.
